Congrats to Top Marathon Female Finisher – Jenna Baker, FNP!

Jenna Baker, FNP, of Novant Health Meridian Medical Group was the top female finisher and 13th place overall in this year’s Novant Health Charlotte Marathon with a time of 3 hours, 38 seconds (3:00:38), which is a pace of 6 minutes, 54 seconds per mile. The time qualifies her to enter the prestigious Boston Marathon next year. Only the most elite runners qualify to compete in this event.

Jenna, a native of Ohio, began running at age 12. A former standout runner at Clemson University from 2007-11, she was a member of the All-ACC team in 2008. She still holds the school’s 5K record.

Jenna has competed in five marathons since 2013, while completing her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree at the University of Minnesota, but the Charlotte Marathon was her personal best time. Training for a marathon requires countless hours and miles of training and discipline in diet, physical conditioning, and mental fortitude. Jenna often did her training runs at 4:30 a.m. before work.

Jenna, an FNP, recently joined the soon-to-open Novant Health Osteopathic and Family Medicine clinic in the University area of Charlotte. She sees patients of all ages and health backgrounds. She and her partners have a special focus on musculoskeletal medicine, sports medicine and of course, runners.

The clinic will be the Charlotte area’s first osteopathic medicine clinic. Osteopathic Medicine’s philosophy focuses on a “whole person” approach to medicine. “We treat the person, not the disease. We solve the problem, not just treat symptoms.” Osteopathic physicians (D.O.’s) utilize a hands-on treatment method called Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) to treat a wide variety of health conditions. The providers see patients for general medical conditions and sports medicine.

In her spare time, Jenna enjoys spending time with her dog, family and friends, hiking in the mountains, camping, cooking, and traveling. Her mantra is “try your best to live in the moment, to be fully present with all your senses, in everything you do, every day.”

Our team congratulates Jenna on her winning performance in the 2017 Novant Health Charlotte Marathon!
